There is a special place in my heart for this dress; someone really tried to design something spectacular. Unfortunately, on me, this just didn't cut it.

Can't stop looking at scalloped edge... |
Yes, that is a scalloped edge to the jacket attached to the skirt; yes, those are ties for the back; yes, those sleeves have some puff; and yes, that material is frankly awesome. This dress deserves an up-do.
First task was to eliminate that scalloping anyway possible. I separated the front skirt from the top's edge and resewed it together with a straight edge instead, keeping the pleats in the skirt (tedious but worth it).

Don't mind the hole in the gut; it will be fixed |
Next things to go were the sleeves and the back ties. I wanted to wear this for Thanksgiving and had a notion it would be at least 70 degrees (called it).
|
You are not needed here! |
The mid-shin length would also have to go, so I opted for my usual knee or right-above-knee length, chopping off a good 7 inches from the bottom.
|
Fold and cut; fold and cut; That's what makes the world go round |
A hemming (and hawing) of all the edges and this was ready for a dinner with family.
|
Final product |
Paired with black tights, a wide black belt, and some new shoe-ties (shoe-like booties?), I was ready to do some cooking!
|
This was my scene for most of the morning; frying up some shallots for a green bean casserole here |
Overall, very happy to give this dress a new life and grateful to be able to spend some quality time with family.
|
If you have a choice, choose happy. |
